The Lord of Hosts, him you shall regard as holy; let him be your fear, and let him be your dread. The second side is brought out most clearly in the Book of Deuteronomy. There fearing God is bound up with loyalty to God’s covenant and obedience to his law, with loving and serving him and walking in his ways (cf. Deut. 6:2; 8:6; 10:12–13; 31:12–13). So “those who fear the Lord” (Pss. 33:18; 118:4) are those who are loyal and faithful to him, and who show this by obedience to his commandments. In
